A new study published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research reports that patients who submitted to Botox treatments present significant improvements in depressive symptoms.
Researchers have found that more than half the subjects presenting moderate or severe grade depression show a substantial improvement in the condition.
The study, conducted by Dr. Eric Finzi and Dr. Norman E. Rosenthal, included 74 depressed subjects who were submitted to Botox treatments, and another 47 subjects who were administered placebo treatments. In the first group symptoms diminished by 47 per cent after six weeks, while the second group only recorded a 21 per cent drop. This is the first study that underscores a significant difference in depressed patients as a result of treatment with Botox.
Dr. Norman E. Rosenthal himself, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Georgetown Medical School, commented, “This study is revolutionary! It offers those who suffer from depression a completely new approach to the treatment of this condition that does not contrast with other treatments.”
On the other hand, Charles Darwin and William James too claimed that facial expressions influence mood!
